Every year when New Year’s rolls around, suddenly everyone is making sweeping resolutions, only to be forgotten two weeks later. The first problem here is the concept of resolutions. Resolving to do something sounds pretty lame to me. If you really want to accomplish something, it takes setting an actual goal, writing it down (or typing it out), and coming up with a plan to make it happen. Whether it’s something you want to accomplish in your personal life or in your business, start now.

Break It On Down Now
What people often miss when setting goals is breaking a big accomplishment down in to many small steps that you can approach consistently. You won’t go from new agent to multi-million dollar producer by snapping your fingers – to reach a big goal brainstorm all of the ways you can make it happen. Maybe that means you will set a smaller goal to find 20 prospective buyers or sellers per week. And if something is working, keep trying other methods until something does. Be stubborn about your goals, but flexible in your methods.

Get Professional Help
If you’re not reaching your goals as quickly as you’ve hoped, it may be time to try working with a professional. This can mean something as simple as downloading some motivational books and going on a little getaway to read up and refocus. Maybe take a sales course to help boost your skills and confidence. Or, work one-on-one with a coach. A little time spent with a coach can be well worth it – someone who has been there, done that, can take one look at your goals and know whether or not they are realistic, and give you suggestions on how to move ahead, versus you trying to figure it all out on your own.

It’s time to get serious about your goals. Write them down and put them somewhere you see them every day. Get laser focused and celebrate your progress, and don’t be afraid to take small steps, change them up when needed, or get a little extra help – you’ll be crushing it in no time!
