I get it. The sales game is NOT easy. It’s a different animal from any other job and you have to be ready to play by a different set of rules. Here are some reasons you might not making money in sales… and what to do to.
They’re Not Ready for You
Congratulations! You’re a shiny new salesperson, ready to take on the world. All you have to do is let everyone you know you’re in business and they will come beating down your door, right? Yeah… no. Patience and understanding is crucial. Just because you are now selling real estate, life insurance, handmade jewelry, or lemonade on the street, people just might not be ready for you right now. Maybe they have long established relationships with other professionals in your industry. Maybe they just aren’t in the mood for lemonade today. Tip: Do let everyone know you’re in business, but you have to put in the work to cultivate new clients, which takes time, and trust.
You’re All Over the Place
You must not lose focus of what your brand is. If you’re a real estate agent, a makeup artist and a car salesman all at the same time, people won’t know what to use you for, and you can’t grow your brand properly. It’s okay to do more than one thing, as long as it all works together and makes sense for your brand. Tip: Focus in on what you want people to primarily think of you as and put all of your efforts toward branding yourself that way.
You’ve Gotta Spend Money to Make Money
Maybe you’re not investing in your business because you’re scared you’ll run out of money. The problem with that logic is – in sales you need a constant pipeline of new business. You can’t depend on one sale to generate the next sale. You have to be strategic and look at it as something that will come back to you. Tip: Consider budgeting a percentage of your commission checks to reinvest back into your business.
If you’re not making money in sales, hang in there. Be consistent, persistent and invest back in your business and you’ll succeed!
